New recreation facility
Group Eight was awarded the structural, electrical and mechanical engineering services for the new Flamborough YMCA. The work included preliminary and detail design, specifications, contract administration and site review.
The structural design includes a combination of load-bearing masonry walls and steel framing that supports second floor precast floor slabs and steel framed roof. However, the pool and
underfloor pool service areas are of reinforced concrete which incorporate mechanical
ductwork, pool lighting, and pool equipment.
A sophisticated emergency call system is installed throughout the facility. The pool and aerobic studio have a combined indirect/ direct lighting system that provides ergonomic comfort.
To provide
energy efficiency, variable frequency drives were installed on many supply/
exhaust fan units and the air systems provide 90% efficient filtration
rate. Mechanical systems also provide heat recovery for pool and change
room exhaust. The pool area is air-conditioned for year-round temperature/humidity
control.
The project design will accommodate future expansion of the second floor area on
existing roof areas.
