Expansion, machining building

Group Eight was responsible for all structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services for the machining building expansion project for Wescast Industries, Wingham location. The work included planning, design, specifications, contract administration and general site review.

The new 14,000 ft², steel frame addition includes a new office area, training facility, cafeteria, and employee locker rooms.

Some aspects of the electrical and mechanical designs included are a constant volume HVAC system; a central DDC system with remote monitoring to conserve energy; an overhead slot diffuser system in the exterior office areas to reduce window drafts and energy use; a scheduled, end of shift, warm air drying system in the new locker rooms; and energy efficient T8 lamps providing indirect lighting.

To accommodate a tight time frame, a construction management process was adopted. Work was scheduled so that the daily operation of the machining plant was not disrupted.
