Design-build, steel warehouse addition Group Eight was retained to provide structural engineering services for the 54,000 ft2 warehouse addition to the Royalcor Steel facility. Our assignment included design, specifications, general construction review and co-ordination with other disciplines and the contractor for this design-build project. The structural design included the installation of two, 10-tonne, high-speed cranes that are used for moving structural steel tubes within this facility and onto trucks for shipping. The design of the 33 ft. high, 1-storey addition also accommodates a 12 ft. 'across site' elevation difference by utilizing various foundation wall elements and retaining walls. Future plant expansion was provided for within the design. Office areas, employee Lunchroom and washroom facilities were also part of the addition. This design-build project was completed within the agreed budget and 6-month schedule. |
