Mega auto shredder process facility

As prime consultant, Group Eight was responsible for structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new mega auto shredder process facility. The work included planning, site development, design, specifications and field review.

The facility consists of a 3-storey, 6,000 ft² operations building and a 120,000 ft² process site. Electrical, mechanical and structural teams worked closely together to ensure all design services were optimised, co-ordinating with an equipment consultant from Texas, USA and equipment suppliers from around the world. Engineering work included underground electrical and hydraulic lines; power supply for the 6,000 horsepower motor; a water supply system for dust scrubbing and fire protection; a 3-stage, outdoor air supply system providing ventilated air and positive room pressurization to the shredder motor area; and a special foundation design for the shredder, electric motor and other equipment.
