Warehouse and office renovation
Group Eight was responsible for structural, electrical and mechanical engineering services for the G. A. Love Distribution Centre. Our assignment included design, specifications, contract administration and general review.
An energy audit was conducted and co-ordinated with Ontario Hydro and appropriate energy rebates were built into the design. The outdoor transformer station was refurbished. The existing electrical systems were replaced with a new power distribution system that efficiently meets the demands of the food industry and can accommodate future expansion.
The structural work included a new foundation design that would accommodate new loading docks in the shipping/receiving area; new building walls; new mezzanine to house mechanical/electrical equipment; and a new roof top area for refrigeration equipment.
The mechanical work included modifications to the central chillers and boilers; new energy management system; upgrades to the sprinkler system; and separate, climate-controlled areas for perishable food. A cost-effective energy management system that can expand in the future was included.

The 100,000 ft2 facility required major renovation work in order to fulfill the owner's food distribution needs. The renovation work transformed an auto parts manufacturing plant into modern offices, a refrigerated warehouse and a distribution centre designed for the special requirements of the food industry. Work scheduling was planned so that daily operations were not interrupted. |
