Warehouse conversion, electronic circuit board facility
As prime consultant, Group Eight was responsible for structural, mechanical, electrical municipal engineering and architectural services. Our work included preliminary and detail design, project management, specifications, contract administration, construction management and site review.
An existing 40,000 ft2 warehouse was transformed into an electronic circuit board facility. The work was co-ordinated so that the specialized equipment could be relocated and running quickly. This fast-tracked project required co-ordination with the owner and architect who were based in Germany.
A new roof support system was designed for the mechanical roof mounted equipment. A new HVAC and exhaust system provides the Yellow and Clean Rooms with separate ventilation systems, while the plating areas have hood units and an exhaust system.
The work also included the addition of a second floor for office space, site grading and services, landscaping, parking lots, roadways, and outdoor illumination.

The facility contained several areas that had particular needs such as the special
production areas requiring a Clean Room environment; Yellow Rooms for the photography development area; and the plating areas were given a hazardous classification. A new 1500 kVA electrical outdoor substation was constructed to handle the heavy electrical equipment load. The design accommodated the different voltage demands of the European and American equipment. A direct digital control monitoring system was incorporated into the design to provide appropriate temperature and humidity throughout the plant and offices. As well, energy-efficient lighting systems were utilized throughout the building with special systems for the Yellow and Clean Rooms. |
