Modernization of the Tinplate Division, Phases 1, 2 & 3
Phase
1 - Preliminary Study
The work included analyses with recommendations
for improving each line. Optimal usages of proven modern technology,
improved layout, and utilization of automated controls were
large factors for the expected reduction in operating costs.
Other benefits included reduced training costs, increased equipment
reliability and product throughput.
Phase 2 - Cost Analyses #2 Tower Annealing Line
Group Eight's work involved preliminary design, detail design, cost analyses, and scheduling. This was done with various shutdown scenarios in conjunction with a 24-hour-a-day operating schedule.
Phase 3 - Specifications/ Upgrade Five Process Lines
Detailed specifications and bid packages were prepared for five process lines. The specifications included the supply and installation of equipment, commissioning and training for each line. Group Eight carried out bid evaluations, and provided recommendations for vendor selection.

Dofasco's Tinplate Division's main focus was to upgrade its aging process lines, with the objective of reducing operating costs while increasing equipment reliability and product throughput. Group Eight provided mechanical, electrical, structural engineering and project management services throughout the four phases of the project.
Once planning was complete, Group Eight provided a mentor application so that Dofasco's team could learn the implementation process. Group Eight implemented the work for the first line. Dofasco followed Group Eight's project management template for the work on the remaining lines. |
