New Steel Warehouse Facility
Group Eight Engineering Limited was the Prime Consultant, providing architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services for this new state-of-the-art steel coil storage facility.
The facility is approximately 180,00 ft2 and was designed to allow a 120,000 ft2 expansion.
The facility was designed to handle a heavy volume of steel coil product and is equipped with large, high-speed, automatic overhead doors and eight, 45-tonne overhead cranes with a hook height of 28 ft. Four large, direct-fired, continuously operating, exterior heating/ ventilating units maintain a constant positive pressure within the building. Very tight dew point and temperature control is required for the storage of "Class I Automotive" steel coils.
Due to the large volume of truck traffic, CO and NO2 gases are also monitored, and ventilation provided to "purge" the building as necessary.
The facility contains a Lunchroom, washrooms, and shower and change areas for the employees. |
Round-the-clock,
high volume, crane operation requires very tight building and crane
operating tolerances. |

The ventilation, interior pressure, dew
point and temperature levels are constantly monitored by computer. |
