New
cancer centre, HHS-Henderson
Group Eight was responsible for all mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new $30 million, 5-storey, 176,000 ft2 state-of-the-art Hamilton Regional Cancer Centre completed in 1992. The work included preliminary and detail design, specifications, contract administration and general construction review.
This health care facility comprises patient treatment rooms, five radiation therapy bunkers with specialized equipment including two simulator machines, research laboratories, library, offices and a lecture theatre.
Mechanical design aspects of this project included HVAC systems, chilled water plant, fume hood exhaust, monitoring and control systems, plumbing and drainage, sprinkler and stand pipe systems and site services. Various exhaust systems ranging from general exhaust to radioactive filter systems with 'bag-in bag-out' filter units were used.
An HV power substation, an emergency power plant and a power distribution system that incorporated a bus duct design were included in the electrical design. The electrical work also included exterior and interior illumination, lightning protection, special
communication systems and services for the radiation treatment and diagnostic equipment. |
