New
cancer centre, Grand River Hospital
All mechanical and electrical engineering services were the responsibility of Group Eight for the new $23.4 million, 10,200 m2, state-of-the-art Cancer Centre completed in the fall of 2003. The work included preliminary and detail design, specifications, contract administration and site review.
The 4-storey cancer care facility is comprised of six radiation treatment bunkers, two simulator suites, a chemotherapy day care area, clinical trial rooms, outpatient clinics and support facilities.
The Hospital's central plant supplies the Cancer Centre's mechanical and electrical
systems. Mechanical systems design included HVAC, plumbing and drainage, medical gases, sprinkler equipment, a chiller dedicated for the cooling of the radiation treatment equipment, and a DDC control system interfaced with the Hospital's system.
The electrical design included power distribution systems, exterior and interior
illumination, patient/nurse communication systems, structured cabling systems, lightning protection systems, and a fully addressable fire alarm system. |
