Acute Care Hospital Expansion
Group Eight Engineering Limited was responsible for all mechanical and electrical engineering services for this Hospital Expansion and Renovation project. The project consists of a 114,000 ft2 addition housing a new central plant, Mental Health, ICU, Rehabilitation, Combined Medicine Unit, Endoscopy, and Operating Rooms and 67,000 ft2 of renovation to the ER, Cafeteria, Surgical Suite, Main Entrance, Oncology, Obstetrics and Complex Continuing Care.
The work included preliminary design, design development, contract documents, contract administration and site review.
The project consists of three phases. Phase 3 involves extensive phasing and sequencing in order to allow the Hospital to maintain operations throughout the construction period.
The new central plant includes a steam/hot water boiler plant, and a chiller plant. Mechanical Systems include: HVAC, plumbing and drainage, medical gases, sprinklers and a DDC control system.
Electrical systems that were designed included new incoming high voltage electrical services, a high voltage substation, emergency power plant, power distribution systems, interior/exterior lighting, patient/nurse communication systems, security system and a fully addressable fire alarm system.
A co-generation system which was designed by a third-party consultant, was incorporated and integrated into the mechanical and electrical systems of the central plant. |
