New secondary school, Ste. Famille, Mississauga
Group Eight provided structural engineering services for Notre Place-Ste. Famille Secondary School and Community Centre within the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board area. The firm was responsible for planning, design, specifications and general field review.
The new facility was designed to accommodate the relocation of a 2-storey, steel frame and concrete floor relocatable school that was salvaged from another site. The relocated modules made up 24,000 ft2 of the 89,000 ft2 facility and were reconfigured to create a major wing in the newfacility. Rearrangement of the modules to create a permanent structure was a unique feature that required additional co-ordination to ensure structural and architectural compatibility with the new design.
The new school was designed to meet the needs of the French-speaking community as well. The building consists of Classrooms, Laboratories, Library, Art Rooms, Gymnasia, Chapel, full kitchen, Servery and Cafetorium.
