New college campus, Glendale site
Group Eight was retained to provide mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new Niagara College Campus project. The work involved design, specifications, contract
administration and general site review.
The new 220,000 ft2 building consists of Lecture Theatres, Classrooms, Laboratories, Library, Gymnasia, change/washroom facilities, Cafeteria, student pub, machine and maintenance shops, and administration facilities.
The electrical design work included a main 2,000 kVA indoor substation and power distribution system with a 250 kW emergency back-up generator; indoor/outdoor lighting using high-efficiency luminaires; fire alarm, paging, telephone/television and computer communication systems; and under-floor duct system in the Library for power and data cabling
distribution.
The building's plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and fire protection was the responsibility of the mechanical design team. The work included an energy management system and an HVAC system that uses individual fan coil units located in ceiling spaces.
