New elementary school, Laurelwood

All mechanical and electrical engineering services for the Laurelwood Elementary School Project in Waterloo were the responsibility of Group Eight Engineering. The work included design, specifications, contract administration and general field review.

The 1-storey, 35,000 ft2 school is heated and air-conditioned by seven rooftop HVAC units. The units incorporate a variable air volume control system so that each classroom is served by its own air terminal unit to maintain individual space temperature comfort levels.

Throughout most of the interior spaces in the school are without suspended ceilings. The mechanical and electrical conduit, piping and ductwork run exposed. This design required careful co-ordination with the architectural and structural consultants in order to provide a visually pleasing interior without the traditional suspended ceiling.
