New residence and dining facility
All structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services were provided by Group Eight. The work included planning, design, specifications, contract administration and general construction review.
The 143,500 ft2 facility houses 280 students. Within the 6-storey complex is a 2-level dining area that accommodates seating for 200. The main floor hosts a marche-style food court, three retail operations and the Fireside Lounge. The kitchen/dining facilities were designed to serve the new residence as well as several adjacent existing residences. The new building also includes study and lounge areas, games room, meeting rooms, convenience store, laundry facilities, and a basement maintenance/service shop. This project accommodated the 'double cohort' student enrolment increases in September 2002.
The kitchen ventilation system includes an 'ecologizer' filtering system. This technology is able to remove grease and cooking odours from the exhaust system. |

Independent HVAC systems are provided for the kitchen and the residents' rooms.
This design allows energy savings and provides flexibility between the two user groups within the building. |
