The Department of Indian Affairs required heating and air conditioning system studies to be conducted to determine overall efficiencies. A ground source heat pump system was selected as a result of the life cycle cost analysis. The system uses 30,000 feet of 1" plastic pipe that is buried 6 feet deep in trenches, circulating an antifreeze solution to draw heat from the earth. The school also has a DDC (direct digital control) monitoring and control system that is linked by telephone modem to the public works department in Ohsweken for 24-hour monitoring. This project qualified for a $442,000 Ontario Hydro Savings-By-Design grant.
