New City Hall, built on existing site

Group Eight was retained to provide structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services for the new Stoney Creek City Hall project. The firm was responsible for design, specifications, contract administration and general construction review.

The 62,000 ft2 building was designed for full barrier-free access and meets all post-disaster criteria including additional reinforcing for earthquakes. The 3- storey facility has an energy management system and a glycol heat recovery system which were installed as energy efficiency measures. Future expansion was also considered and incorporated into the design.

Prior to the final decision to build the new facility, Group Eight was also involved with the feasibility study to evaluate the existing city hall, including options of renovating and adding to the existing structure versus demolition and new construction on the same site. A new building was the preferred option.
