New Maid-of-the-Mist Plaza

Group Eight provided mechanical, electrical and structural engineering services for the new Maid-of-the-Mist Plaza, Niagara Falls, Ontario. The firm was responsible for design, specifications and general construction review.

The plaza was designed to provide public elevator access to the 'Maid-of-the-Mist' boat launches, 300 feet below on the Niagara River while maintaining excellent site lines of the spectacular view of Niagara Falls.

The concrete structure, equivalent to six storeys in height, is built into the Niagara River embankment which is part of the Niagara Escarpment formation.

This unique structure consists of elevator access, machine/ equipment rooms, public lobbies, restaurant, retail mall and Falls viewing promenades.
