Reconstruction Macassa Lodge Wings C & E
Group Eight was responsible for structural, mechanical and electrical engineering services for the Macassa Lodge E & C Wing reconstruction project.
The 3-storey, 76,000 ft2, C Wing replaces B and C Wings and accommodates 114 residents. Renovation work for E Wing included new layout, windows, exterior cladding and improved electrical and mechanical systems.
Newly constructed and renovated spaces are air-conditioned utilizing a new energy efficient, 225 Ton centrifugal chiller with cooling tower. The resident rooms have a 2-pipe valance heating and cooling system which is highly effective at eliminating drafts, is easily controlled, and is out of the way of furniture.
Relocation of the primary electrical service and transformer were necessary due to demolition work and parking expansion. The electrical design called for variable frequency drives on all equipment and T8 electronic and compact fluorescent lights which provide energy efficiency.
Structural design included modifying and reinforcing existing structures to carry additional loads.
